Gerard Depardieu attends the military parade in North Korea

Spotted Friday by several journalists, the actor had refused all requests for interviews.

His presence in a lobby of a hotel in Pyongyang (North Korea) had elicited many comments. Gerard Depardieu was present at the military commemorations of the 70th anniversary of North Korea on Sunday 9 September. He was photographed sitting under the main stand. Spotted Friday by several journalists, the actor had refused all requests for interviews.

Invitations have also been sent around the world to Heads of State. Only the Mauritanian president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, had responded.

Speculation about a Chinese head of state coming to Pyongyang has not materialized. The last Chinese president to visit North Korea remains Hu Jintao in 2005. Only one of seven members of the standing committee of the Chinese Communist Party’s political bureau sat next to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
